YOU GO INTO THE VINEYARD

The Mission of Christ and His Church in Canada's North is rooted in and finds its life in Our Lord Himself. In the small Catholic communities in the diocese of Whitehorse, Christ's light illumines the darkness giving hope and peace.

"The entire mission of the Church then, is concentrated and manifested in evangelization. Through the winding passages of history, the Church has made her way under the grace and the command of Jesus Christ: "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation" (Mk 16:15) "... and lo, I am with you always, until the close of the age" (Mt 28:20). "To Evangelize", writes Paul VI in Evangeli Nuntiandi, 14, "is the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her most profound identity".1

"And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the marketplace; and to them he said, 'You go into the vineyard too" (Mt 20:3-4). From that distant day the call of the Lord Jesus " You go into my vineyard too" never fails to resound in the course of history: it is addressed to every person who comes into this world". 2
